Recipe: Lung Squares
Mollie loves her store bought lamb lungs enough so when there were beef lungs at the supermarket I jumped at the opportunity to try bake some lung squares instead of dumping twenty bucks on every packet of lung jerky.
This was my first time doing lungs so here goes!
Pretty amazing how inexpensive imported beef lungs are. These weigh about 500g and cost less than RM5.
I decided to bake them as it is, and see how they turn out compared to the lamb lungs I usually buy her from Alps Natural.
I cut them into squares of different sizes and popped them into the oven at 100 celcius. I did not know how long it was gonna take.
An hour later: Nope. Still raw
2 hours later: Starting to brown on the outside, but nope still raw.
3 hours later: Squeezed one of the cubes and moisture foamed on the surface. Nope.
4 hours later: Icut into one of the thicker squares. Still pinkish. The smaller ones are done, but they are not very hard and dry.
5 hours later: The last pieces were finally @&*&#%^@*$ done.
5 hours to properly dry and cook these pieces of *#&$^#*$.
Presenting the ugliest piece of treat I ever had the honour of making. Honestly these look like alien meat. They are soft and chewy and just downright ugly.
She's happy enough with them though!
If I were to bake them again, I'd be sure to slice them thinly so as to quicken the baking time. I think she would also prefer a crispier and crunchier texture.
